Federal agents declared on Monday that they had successfully thwarted a detailed plot to explode bombs at several sites operated by two corporate companies on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The move came after the arrest of people linked to an radical group espousing anti-capitalist and anti-authority views.

Those Arrested Detained During Desert Practice

Four individuals were arrested last Friday in the remote area situated east of Los Angeles as they were allegedly running through their intended attack. Officials showed overhead monitoring images to reporters, which showed the group carrying a sizeable obscure device to a workspace. Law enforcement emphasized that the arrests took place prior to the suspects could construct a fully functional IED.

According to the filed court documents, the four suspects listed are Carroll, aged 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32 years old; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41. All four are said to be from the LA vicinity.

Alleged Driving Force and Ties

Even though authorities did not clearly detail a motive, they said the group are part of a offshoot dubbed the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This entity allegedly calls for "the working class to rebel and combat against the capitalist system," as per the court papers.

Each suspect is charged with comprise conspiracy to commit a crime and having a bomb. Officials noted that additional charges are expected in the next few weeks.

Particulars of the Alleged "Midnight Sun Operation"

Officials said that one of the suspects had created a meticulous blueprint last month to attack multiple commercial sites across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The intended sites were characterized as "like Amazon" logistical warehouses.

"The plan was specific," the attorney remarked. "It included a precise guide to construct explosive devices … and listed several sites across the county of Orange and Los Angeles."

As per the probe and court documents, the scheme involved planting bags packed with complex IEDs that were set to be set off simultaneously at midnight on New Year's Eve at five places. New Year's Eve was chosen as an opportune time as the plan noted "pyrotechnics will be going off at this time so explosions will be harder to be noticed."

The handwritten, eight-page handwritten plan, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," suggested that more locations could be added. The facilities were categorized as premises and buildings operated by two different firms tied to operations related to commerce.

Future Plans and Evidence Found

Court documents also indicated that two members in the faction had discussed future operations focusing on immigration enforcement officers and transport with pipe bombs in 2026. One accused allegedly said that such strikes "would take some of them out and intimidate the rest of them."

The plotting were reportedly planned both at an face-to-face meeting in Los Angeles and through an encrypted communication application.

Images featured in the legal filings depict a desert campsite with what officials identified as explosives-manufacturing materials scattered on makeshift work surfaces.

The complaint states that the individuals "all brought IED parts to the campsite, among them various sizes of PVC pipes, believed to be a chemical compound, fuel, fuel powder, another chemical, and items to be used as detonators, along with other items."

Instructions also included guidance on how to manufacture the explosives and how to prevent leaving forensic clues that could be connected back to the individuals. The suspects had in the recent past obtained components and other materials, via buys from e-commerce sites.

Arrest and Follow-up

Federal agents intervened last week while the individuals were practicing the operation in the desert near a desert community. "They owned all the components they required to construct an operational bomb at that site," the attorney said.

During executed searches, investigators allegedly found posters for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's home that demanded "Down with America", and "Eliminate ICE". At another accused's residence, police discovered a duplicate of the elaborate explosives scheme.

The suspects were arrested peacefully. They were set to make a court appearance in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
