Performer Refutes Anti-Vaxxer Views After Narrating Contentious Pandemic Documentary
Liam Neeson has given his narration to a new documentary that casts doubt on the safety of vaccinations and lauds ex- health official the political figure.
The Film's Disputed Basis
Named "Plague of Corruption," the project is adapted from a popular book written by a disgraced researcher, who became famous during the health crisis for claims that the illness was a result of a faulty batch of the flu vaccine.
Her collaborator, a producer, has previously authored books with conspiracy-prone media personality Alex Jones. He took to social media celebrating Neeson's participation in the film.
A Strong Rebuttal
Representatives for Neeson have provided a comment pushing back against implications that he supports anti-immunization beliefs.
"Everyone can acknowledge that corruption might be present within the pharmaceutical industry, but that must not be equated to opposition to vaccines," the response explains. "Neeson is not, and remains not, against vaccines. His long work with Unicef highlights his enduring support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The response noted that the actor was not involved in crafting the project's narrative and that questions about its assertions should be directed to the producers.
Major Assertions Featured in the Film
As presented, the narration provided by Neeson makes several controversial statements:
- It suggests that pro-vaccine voices have insisted on "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It declares that "medical science has become dangerously politicized."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is shown saying, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they just aren't adequately tested."
- The narration takes aim at stay-at-home orders, arguing they caused psychological harm that resulted in thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it mentions a report that they were "hurriedly approved" and seen as "hazardous tests."
Previous Context and Recent Disputes
The film includes a past television report about AIDS medication trials on children, which was subsequently the subject of a correction by the broadcaster for editorial breaches.
In recent weeks, the political figure called on the Centers for Disease Control to revise its long-held position that there is no link between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is also referenced in the film, contrary to a fresh analysis from the World Health Organisation confirming no such link has been found.
A Past Record of Support
Contrasting the film's narrative, Neeson has formerly expressed clear advocacy for vaccines in his role as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "a remarkable human success story," stating that "The discourse about vaccines in recent years has lost sight of how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in human history."
The film ends with Neeson's script stating, "This marks not the finish of our narrative. Rather, it is the start of a new chapter."
