Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with performances so bad.”

Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
