The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
During the American gathering, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
