Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Spurs supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded two scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of the year.

However the main talking point was the visitors' second goal when Vicario gave away possession well outside his box.

He came out to deal with a high pass and took the ball near the touchline.

But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions truly angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our fans apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said being booed "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was not an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second most distant top division goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was solely about trying to make the correct connection and place it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home woes.

This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to play prior to the end of the season.

Just a single of those victories have come after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to work against you too – the first was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost another match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
